Atmel and TriQuint Announce Joint Development Project for CDMA Handset Products

HEILBRONN, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2001--Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) and TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. (Nasdaq:TQNT) announced today that they will cooperate in the design, manufacture and marketing of integrated solutions for the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) handset market. The joint development project, named CDMA345(TM), is currently developing a complete RF chipset solution for CDMA handsets. The joint development project's first products, CDMA power amplifiers, are being announced today in a separate press release.

The CDMA345(TM) project benefits from each company's complementary RFIC experience in Galium Arsenide (GaAs) and Silicon-Germanium (SiGe) technology. Dr. Dilek Barlas, Director of Technology and Business Development for TriQuint, commented that ``coordination between Atmel and TriQuint engineers has exceeded expectations. TriQuint and Atmel engineers jointly developed each circuit block. The performance of these circuits and the speed with which they have been developed has demonstrated the value of this cooperation.''

``TriQuint's and Atmel's experience base in RFICs enabled us to quickly develop innovative solutions that will provide significant performance and commercial advantages compared with the current product offerings available on the market today. Later this year, a CDMA RF transmit solution will be available for volume production,'' stated Mr. Matthias Bopp, Director of Marketing for Atmel Wireless & Microcontrollers' Communication Division.
